The hosts got off to a flying start with Martinez scoring after just 73 seconds, breaking the record for the fastest goal in Atlanta United history.
Things only got worse for New England, with midfielder Xavier Kouassi being shown a straight red card in the 16th minute of the clash.
Atlanta did not let up and and earned a penalty on the half hour mark when Greg Garza's strike hit a New England defender’s hand inside the box. Martinez made no mistake and calmly slotted past Cody Cropper for his second of the game.
Eight minutes later, Atlanta had another spot kick thanks to another handball from Antonio Mlinar Delamea. The defender picked up New England's second red card of the game after obscenely attempting to stop a shot on target from Atlanta. Martinez stepped up again and showed no nerves as he expertly finished to Cropper's right.
The goal was the Venezuelan's third of the match, completing a sincilating first half hat-trick.
Just before the halftime whistle Walkes bagged the Five Stripes' fourth, topping of a thrilling half in which Tata Martino's men dominated 75% of the possession.
Kratz, Asad and Villalba all joined the party in the second half to punish 9-man New England and condemn them to a loss in which they did not have a single shot.
Atlanta coach Martino will have been incredibly happy with his team's performance, but opted for a more "boring" tone in his post match interview.
“Forgive me for sounding boring but I am going to repeat that we played a large part of the game up two players,” the Argentine manager said.
“I do want to say that I respect how our team played after that but that had a big impact.”
The win stretches Atlanta's home unbeaten run to to eighth consecutive matches, a streak that has seen them climb to fifth place in the Eastern conference Major Soccer League table.
